A Message from Tiger Ball Co-Chairs Kathleen P. Chimicles & Nicholas E. Chimicles, Esq.
Dear Friends,
Every opera season brings with it unique cause for celebration, and this year, we are especially proud that the Opera Company of Philadelphia is bringing the East Coast Premiere of Tea: A Mirror of Soul to us here at our own Academy of Music in an all-star, highly-theatrical production that was created for the American Premiere. Oscar and Grammy-winning composer Tan Dun is a musical force of nature, with repertoire that ranges from the award-winning score for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, to the theme song for the Beijing Olympics, to concertos and operas that embody the possibilities of contemporary classical music.
We are thrilled that Maestro Tan Dun will be Guest of Honor at The Tiger Ball on February 17, 2010 at the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue. This special occasion celebrates not only Chinese New Year, Year of the Tiger (February 14), but also pays tribute to the Chinese and Japanese cultural influences which have shaped Tan Dun's music. Along with Honorary Chair Margaret Kuo, we are working towards a beautiful celebration of this special moment in the Opera Company of Philadelphia's artistic life in which we will recognize one of the great composers of our time.
We hope that you will join us!
Kathleen and Nicholas Chimicles Tiger Ball Co-Chairs
