Operatographer

By Opera Philadelphia

Bass-baritone Andrew Bogard, a participant in the 2015-2016 Emerging Artist program and Doctor Grenville in the October 2015 production of La traviata, is host to more than just a polished voice. Between rehearsals (and sometimes during) Andrew is a curious and generous photographer.

Andrew began taking photos as a child: "My father (a science teacher/ecologist) would take the most beautiful photos of nature, and he taught me the mechanics of film photography. Around age 11, I went to a summer camp at Ohio Wesleyan and studied it more in depth. As the digital age took hold, my interest in photography waned (I stubbornly didn't want to convert from film), but then, luckily, my opera career picked up, and I found a wave of inspiration from the beautiful sets and costumes of the stage (and the wonderful people behind it all). After I learned the digital side of photography, my interest grew into a passion and now I seldom leave home without my Nikon DSLR."

The following photos were taken by Andrew in rehearsals forĀ La traviata.
