Staging a battle of Aesthetics in Oscar
By Opera Philadelphia
The beauty that Oscar Wilde worked so hard to live for is clearly present in this bold modern production, but so is the hideous nature of the world he was fighting against. These two diametrically opposed aesthetics are in a constant battle throughout the opera, with beauty shining through in even the most grotesque scenes. Using innovative staging techniques, effects and choreography, our creative team was able to heighten the tension of this battle for a performance unlike any other.
