Meet Emerging Artist Sarah Shafer
Praised for her “luminous voice” and “intensely expressive interpretations,” (The New York Times), and named “a singer to watch” by Opera News, soprano Sarah Shafer is quickly emerging as a sought-after operatic and concert artist. The State College, Pennsylvania native recently graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music and is a member of Opera Philadelphia’s Emerging Artists Program. This month, you can hear (but not see) Sarah as The Celestial Voice in our new production of Verdi’s Don Carlo, and next year she steps into the starring role of Adina in Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love.
The Opera Philadelphia stage has a history as a welcoming environment where rising young talents are nurtured. This season, in celebration of the 40th Anniversary and the company’s ongoing commitment to emerging talent, Opera Philadelphia is strengthening its mission of cultivating future stars through the formation of an Emerging Artists Program. Each of our six emerging singers engage with Opera Philadelphia onstage, appearing in at least one production, while also singing in community recitals and special events throughout the 40th Anniversary Season.
Emerging Artist Sarah Shafer is generously underwritten by Dr. Renée Rollin.
