Between the Notes: Capriccio
Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts
Rendell Room
300 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA
Join us for Between the Notes as we discuss Richard Strauss’s final opera, Capriccio, which was subtitled “A Conversation Piece for Music.” Capriccio contains some of Strauss' most glorious vocal and instrumental music. The opera explores the age-old operatic relationship between words and music, as our heroine, the Countess Madeleine contemplates which lover she should take: Olivier the poet or Flammand the composer.
Our guest speaker for this edition of Between the Notes will be Suzanne Bratt, a graduate student of Musicology at the University of Pennsylvania, who will discuss Strauss’s score and share information about the opera’s structure and music, performance history, and importance in the Strauss canon. This program will included excerpts from the opera.
Available to Contributor-level members ($100) and above. Reservations required. Email membership@operaphila.org or call 215.732.8400.
